What should you know?

Societal norms lead us to view life as a set of linear stages. First you learn, then you work, then you retire, then you die.

A cyclical retirement turns linear thinking on its head. Rather than closing the doors to education in your late teens or early 20’s and delaying leisure years until “retirement”, you take a more dynamic approach.

Why should you care?

The traditional model of working nonstop for 40 years, abruptly halting in your mid 60s, then cramming everything you have on your bucket list into your twilight years feels outdated and one-dimensional.

In an era when it is becoming more common for people to pursue multiple professions over their lifetimes, the concept of retirement should also be re-thought.

A cyclical retirement is when you choose to bring forward some of your leisure years into your traditional working years.

Examples could be hitting pause on your career to spend time with your children while they are young, taking a sabbatical so you can go on a dream trip while you are fit and active or going back to study or re-train for a career change. The options are endless and personal to you.

With proper planning and intent, anything is possible. If necessary, lost months and years can be added to the end of your working life.

You only have one opportunity to live your life, it is not a dress rehearsal! It is vitally important that you live the fullest and most meaningful life possible. Be bold and don’t be restricted by conventionality.
